DMK president MK Stalin is set to be elected leader of his party’s legislative group evening.A meeting of the newly-elected MLAs of the DMK has been convened at the party headquarters at 6pm to formally elect him as leader.
Chief Minister designate Stalin is expected to meet Governor Banwarilal Purohit thereafter and stake his claim to form the government. That would set in motion the process for the Governor to invite Stalin to be sworn in Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place on May 7 and will be a low key affair at the Raj Bhavan given the current second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
Sources said Stalin has quietly begun backroom work on the composition in the Cabinet which is expected to be a mix of both experienced as well as some young faces. The DMK led front won 159 of the 234 seats in the Assembly polls held on April 6 with the DMK achieving a simple majority of its own with 133 seats. The AIADMK led front bagged the remaining 75 seats with the AIADMK winning 66 of them.
