Flood rescue operation by NDRF in Maharashtra

Heavy rainfall from last few days in Mumbai and its adjacent coastal districts has caused flooding in various districts of the Maharashtra.Presently 26 NDRF teams are deployed in districts Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Satara, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Nagpur and Pune of Maharashtra for flood rescue and relief work.

In view of severity of the situation, additional 08 NDRF teams have been airlifted from Kolkata and Vadodara base which are being deployed in affected areas of Maharashtra. This will take total NDRF deployment to 34 teams.NDRF rescuers are continuously engaged in rescue and relief work and providing help to the flood affected people.

SAR operations also continues at four locations of landslide in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Satara districts. Till now NDRF teams have rescued about 1800 stranded people and evacuated 87 persons to safer places. NDRF Teams have also retrieved 52 dead bodies from the various landslides sites and extensive searches are on for missing persons.

Rescue and relief operations are still continuing in coordination with the local authorities. Rescuers are strictly following COVID-19 guidelines and are in possession of all protective gears.Besides, for immediate response during flood in any part of the country, total 149 NDRF teams are deployed/pre-positioned across various parts of country for saving precious lives.A 24X7, NDRF control room in Delhi is closely monitoring the situation and is in close coordination with concerned state authorities.
