International Cooperation has helped save more lives everyday at the National Capital. In a time when the entire nation was struck by the Pandemic, Delhi NCR was hit the worst with high Covid infection rate and oxygen scarcity which made matters worse. It became clear than any intervention even if started immediately would take a couple of months of start producing adequate levels of oxygen.
Last Weekend witnessed a rare international cooperation when the French Embassy contacted Kiran Mazumdar Shaw(Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon, Asia’s leading bio-pharmaceuticals enterprise) to donate an Oxygen Generator to aid in the current crisis faced by the Nation .
Kiran Mazumdar immediately contacted Dr Devi Prasad Shetty who immediately saw this as a solution to the oxygen crisis faced by the Hospitals in the national capital and subsequently a letter was sent from the Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital,Delhi sharing the willingness to accept the generator and if it could be sent immediately.
It is also worthwhile to mention that this aid came at a time when the hospital was managing on bare minimum supplies of oxygen, rationing the available O2 levels to just keep afloat.
In all fairness this would have taken atleast 2 months to operationalize, but due to the seriousness and alacrity with which the French Govt saw the crisis, the generator was dispatched in the wee hours of Sunday morning at 0400 Hours from France and received at the Hospital at 1500 Hours.
The hospital team had proactively got the site ready at the hospital and was ready to receive and commence the installation the generator on Sunday 2nd May 2021.The generator arrived at the hospital at 1500 Hours on 2nd May and the Hospital Engineering teams immediately got involved in getting the generator operational.
By that midnight the generator was operational and started producing oxygen for hospital, this generator is capable of producing 48 cylinders (D Type) in 24 hours enabling the Hospital to support and sustain more lives from that moment thereon.
A great amount of seriousness given by French embassy to India’s current oxygen crisis, and proactive approach and exemplary teamwork at Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital – the Oxygen Generator was made operational in less than 18 hours of landing in airport and within 12 hours of landing in hospital.
