Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan (Retired) today assumed charge as the 2nd Chief of Defence Staff CDS.
Before taking over, he paid tributes at the National War Memorial. He was given Tri-Service Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns. Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari along with Navy vice chief Vice Admiral SN Ghormade and Air Marshal BR Krishna were present on the occasion along with other senior officials of Armed Forces.
Later talking to the media, Lt Gen Chauhan said, he is proud to assume the responsibility of the highest rank in the Indian Armed Forces. He said, he will try to fulfil the expectations of the three defence forces as the Chief of Defence Staff. Lt Gen Chauhan said, we will tackle all challenges and difficulties together.
Lt Gen Anil Chauhan will also function as Secretary, Department of Military Affairs. In a career spanning nearly 40 years, Lt Gen Anil Chauhan had held several command, staff and instrumental appointments and had extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and North-East India.
