In Gujarat, the rescue and relief operations are going on in full swing in Morbi after the collapse of cable bridge over River Machchu collapsed
Nearly 140 people are feared dead while several others who were injured in the tragic incident are under treatment at Morbi and Rajkot. Talking to the media, Rajkot Range IG Ashok Yadav said FIR has been lodged against those responsible for the tragedy. He said a special investigation team has also been set up to probe the incident. The security agencies have so far rescued more than 170 people. The bridge was reopened for the public five days ago after the renovation.
Sources report that five teams of NDRF along with the teams of SRP, SDRF, Indian Army, Navy, Airforce, and fire brigade are working on a mission mode to rescue people who were feared drowned in the Machchu river after the collapse. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel rushed to Morbi last night and reviewed the rescue operation. CM also held a meeting with district administration and assured all possible assistance. The state government formed a five members committee to investigate the cause of the incident. A special ward has been set up in Rajkot civil hospital. In view of the tragic incident, State BJP has canceled its sneh milan programme which was scheduled on the 1st of November. Congress party has also its Parivartan Sankalp Rally in the wake of the mishap.
