The men in blue triumphed in a game which was full of drama, excitement and thrill. It all started with KL Rahul’s fine batting, who scored his first fifty in the current edition of the World Cup. Virat Kohli again proved why Adelaide Oval is a happy hunting ground for him. He finished with an unbeaten 64 off 44 deliveries- his third half-century of the tournament. Surya Kumar Yadav also scored a quick 30 and a fine cameo by R Ashwin ensured India post a daunting total.
Chasing 185, Bangladesh had a flying start and raced to 66 without any loss in just seven overs. Litton Das scored the bulk of the scoring and made sure that Bangladesh were on a driver’s seat. When the play was halted due to rain, the Bengal tigers were 17 runs above the DLS par score. But the rain stopped just in time for India as Bangladesh got a new target of 151 in 16 overs. After the re-start, the game started turning in India’w favour, thanks to a superb run-out by KL Rahul. The direct hit got rid off Litton Das. Najmul Shanto too quickly followed him after being caught in the deep by Suryakumar Yadav. The tides turned in India’s favour and the downfall of Bangladesh started as they kept losing wickets in regular intervals. They lost four wickets in 10 balls to leave themselves on 108/6. Nurul Hasan and Taskin Ahmed did take the game till the end but Bangladesh fell agonisingly short of the winning target. This victory gave India another two points and it also ensured India moved closer to book the semi-final berth.
