Two-time Olympics medallist Sushil Kumar is under probe for his alleged involvement in a brawl that resulted in the death of a wrestler. A wrestler named Sagar Kumar died of his wounds after a late night fracas at the Chhatrasal Stadium here. The Delhi Police has detained a suspect in relation with the crime, in which two other persons were injured.
As per the FIR registered in Model Town, the police received a PCR call around 1 am after the three injured were rushed to a local hospital. The police, after initial investigations, revealed that Sagar and his friends were staying at a house reportedly owned by Sushil. The trio were asked to vacate the premises, which angered them. Sagar and his friends were then called to the Chhatrasal Stadium to sort out the issue, when heated arguments led to fisticuffs among the two groups.
Sushil, however, denied his involvement in the clash, saying neither he nor any of the wrestlers from the Chhatrasal Stadium were involved. “They came from the outside and we have already notified the police about the incident,” he said.
“Initial investigations have revealed that the above mentioned persons were beaten up by Sushil Pehelwan and his friends who committed this crime in the Chhatrasal Stadium,” it added.A double-barrelled gun and five live cartridges and two bamboo sticks have been recovered from the stadium.
