There is no change in Bangladesh’s position on Israel. It has neither changed its diplomatic position towards nor recognised Israel, said the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr A K Abdul Momen. He was responding to the queries regarding the changes in the passport format issued in Bangladesh. Earlier, the Bangladesh passport carried the word ‘valid for travelling except Israel’ which has been removed in the new format issued by the government.
He said that the changes have been made to maintain global standards as no other passport in the world contains such words. He said a passport is a national identity and it does not reflect foreign policy.Earlier, Ambassador and Deputy Director General for Asia and Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Gilad Cohen tweeted that it was great news that Bangladesh has removed the travel ban to Israel. Welcoming the step, he called upon the Bangladeshi government to move forward and establish diplomatic ties between the two countries.
