Freedom fighter and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra musician Anup Bhattacharya passed away in Dhaka on Friday. He was 77.Anup Bhattacharya was recognised as an exceptional Tagore singer. He also composed Baul songs and modern Bangla songs. During the liberation war of Bangladesh he worked as the composer and music director at Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. Some of his patriotic songs like Teer Hara Ei Dheu-er Sagor, Rokto Diye Naam Likhhechhi, Purbo Digonte and Nongor Tolo Tolo inspired the liberation war fighters during 1971.
Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra was the medium for radio broadcasting of the liberation war fighters of Bangladesh in 1971. It played a crucial role during the liberation war which reached a vast audience in the then East Pakistan.
After the independence of Bangladesh, he composed several popular songs in Bangla. He was considered a prominent voice of the modern Bangladeshi music genre. Anup Bhattacharya was the founder member of the Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her condolence message said that Anup Bhattacharya will be remembered for his contribution to the field of music.
